Avatar is both fresh, and well-versed with its historical roots going to not just the Flames hey-days, but also a time when an 8-year-old Tara performed alongside her dread-locked father as Tara & Steve Fataar.
Because each of Tara's siblings has subsequently added their own musical flavour to the band and because essentially, it became a new band - a new name was needed and so, the incarnation of Avatar took place in 2007.

The word Avatar describes "the descent of a deity to the earth in an incarnate form or some manifest shape; the incarnation of a god or an embodiment or personification, as of a principle, attitude, or view of life."
In Sanskrit, avatāra means a passing down, The word "ava" equates to down. In addition "tāra" can mean a passing, "carrying" or "shining" . All completely incidental to the bands namesake.
Ultimately, it works because each of the band members is "a fataar".
